Orlova, Plisetskaya, Terekhova: how Soviet stars dressed
- In the days of Soviet artists there were no fashion houses, it was impossible to go and choose: I want these shoes, a hat, so that the stylist would do my hair for her. It was not like Gina Lollobrigida, Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren or Audrey Hepburn when the famous couturier Givenchy, Pierre Cardin or Christian Dior came to the rescue. The things of our actresses are really blood-knocked hats and shoes, bought from speculators, purses and jewelery. They were talented, beautiful, but at the same time ordinary Soviet women who had to keep the brand. For example, in my collection there is a dress of the actress Yulia Borisova,On it, embroidery from the pre-revolutionary attire of the 1910s is sewn on a new velvet. At that time there were no beads or hands in the country that could perform such work. Because many artists unparted old dresses and themselves created new ones. This was elegance hard price.
We organized the exhibition for half a year, and I collected these things for 40 years. There are about 70 outfits and about 300 accessories. This is the most powerful collection of personal wardrobe stars of the national cinema in our country. Most of the dresses I have never shown anywhere. Many were specially restored, I have 12 specialists working on it - beads, lace, hats, shoes are restored, stylist Kirill Gasilin "revives" the costumes. Viewers will not have the feeling that they are showing some old holes eaten by moths. On the contrary, I think that when you look at these outfits, you get the feeling that the stars that bore them are still with us, they are here, side by side, alive. Their things speak about many things: about taste, about their deprivations, desire to like and shine. Domestic movie stars were style icons in their generation. Women imitated their hairstyles, dresses, copied blouses, brooches, lipstick, eyeliner, even names! They called their daughters in honor of the artists, because they wanted them to become the same stars.
Few people remember our artists of silent films, unfortunately, their names have been forgotten by many. We are not able to keep our history, but we are ready to endlessly chant Monroe, Marlene Dietrich and at the same time learn patriotism ... Why not revise old films, not find out what the names of the actresses from whom the history of Russian cinema began? At my exhibition there are outfits of silent film actresses from Vera Kholodnaya, Natalya Lysenko, Natalya Kovanko, stars of the Stalin era, the post-war period, there are also things that belonged to the recently gone Natalia Krachkovskaya.
There are many pearls in the exhibition. For example, the dress of Olga Baklanova, the famous Russian Hollywood star of the 30s. She is little known in Russia, was popular until 1925, before she went on tour to the United States and did not stay there to live. And her actress, which we should be proud of, was deleted from our history. I managed to get this dress from her niece. There was almost no wardrobe from Lyubov Orlova, because when she was gone, her relatives threw things into the dustbin. Renata Litvinova gave me her stole of ermine, it is presented here. Her silver shoes, which she presented to a colleague in the theater Ethel Kovno, before she emigrated to Israel, I waited 25 years! The actress kept them! I wrote letters to her all these years, and before her death she told me: "Now they are yours." It seems to me that for a woman shoes are half the image. I am very proud that I was able to keep the shoes of Margarita Terekhova, Maya Plisetskaya, Ia Savvina, Vera Maretskaya, Irina Miroshnichenko.
Cinderella's things - Janina Jeimo was hard to find, they were given to me by her daughter. I think that many people love the Latvian star Viyu Artmane, the actress’s daughter transferred two outfits to my collection. Of the new acquisitions, I will note the jacket of Mama Maya Plisetskaya, the actress of silent films Rachel Messerer. Black dress in white polka dots for the Cannes Film Festival star of the Stalin era, Lyudmila Tselikovskaya, dress "red bomb" by Klara Luchko, in which she was also in Cannes. These things are associated with their fame in the movies. And I think that another bright pearl is the coat of Lily Brik - the stars of silent films, the beloved of Vladimir Mayakovsky. It was sewn in Paris, in the house of Gre's mod for her sister, Elsa Triolet. Brick could not dress as elegantly as the Parisian women, because Elsa gave her her old dress. I am proud that I have a coat that was worn by this legendary woman. I think that everyone who loves history, cinema, vintage, will find his happiness at this exhibition. I promise every six months to do a new exhibition, next, in December, will be devoted to the centenary of ballroom fashion and will be held here, at ENEA.
The exhibition is held at the Exhibition of Economic Achievements in Pavilion No. 64, until August 14, 2016, the ticket price is 250 rubles (adult), 100 rubles. (preferential).
