Methods for the treatment of chronic sinusitis

Conservative treatment of chronic sinusitis

Treatment of chronic sinusitis begin with the elimination of its causes (diseases of the teeth, adenoids, polyps in the nose). Then therapy is carried out using several methods. Drug therapy includes the appointment of antibacterial drugs - broad-spectrum antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins, macrolides). They are used in the period of exacerbation of chronic antritis in the case of fever. With purulent sinusitis, antibiotics are prescribed in the form of injections. Pre-conduct sowing of the contents of the sinus to determine the sensitivity of microflora. Outside the exacerbation of the disease, antibiotics should not be taken.

Sinus puncture

One of the most effective methods of treating sinusitis is puncture ("puncture") of the sinus. Before it is done, anesthesia of the mucous membrane of the nasal passages is made with the help of anesthetics (for example, the solution of Dikain with Adrenaline). Then the sinus is punctured through the nasal passage with a special needle, a liquid is injected through it (an antibiotic, a disinfectant). It should be poured independently through the fistula of the sinus and nasopharynx. If the opening of the sinus is closed, another needle is inserted into it to pump out the fluid.
Dioxidin, Furacillin, a solution of Potassium permanganate, etc. are used as a disinfectant. Of the antibiotics, drugs of a wide spectrum of action (for example, cephalosporins) are used. At the same time injected solutions of enzymes that dissolve purulent contents ("Trypsin"). In some cases, glucocorticosteroid hormones are used that have an anti-inflammatory effect.
In some forms of chronic sinusitis, not accompanied by the formation of pus, astringents, antihistamines, glucocorticosteroid hormones are introduced into the cavity of the sinus. Puncture of the maxillary sinus is carried out every other day, 7-10 times. Sometimes a thin catheter is left in the cavity so as not to puncture each time. If, after 5 procedures, pus remains in the sinus, this means that changes have developed that make these treatments ineffective. In this case, surgery is performed.

Surgical treatment of chronic sinusitis

During the operation, the maxillary sinus is opened through the nose, this creates an outlet to the nasopharynx and ensures a normal outflow of the contents. Such an operation has a good therapeutic effect. In some forms of chronic sinusitis perform a radical surgical intervention. Through the vestibule of the oral cavity or the nasal passage in the wall of the sinus make a hole, scraped it and form a fistula with the nasopharynx. Severe forms of chronic antritis are immediately treated surgically, removing the affected tissue.
