How to sew a panel
Beautiful hand-made panels - wall paintings from different materials - noticeably enliven any room and give it a special style and comfort. Bedroom, nursery, kitchen, hallway, office and even the bathroom can be decorated with beautiful panels on topics corresponding to the destination space. Textile panels are very popular, there are many techniques that can be performed: patchwork, quilting, applique, and others. The application is simple in execution, but has a lot of visual possibilities. We have already considered how to learn how to weave macrame, baubles from laces and now how to sew a panel.
To make a panel need:
- - A lot of patches of different color and texture of fabrics;
- - fabric for the basis of the panel;
- - interlining;
- - glue spider web;
- - bulk cushioning material;
- - sewing supplies;
- - iron.
Revise old clothes, bags, towels and bed linen. Surely from unnecessary things you collect a lot of valuable material to create more than one textile picture.Sort things and fabrics by colors and shades - it will be easier for you to select the necessary patches for the details of the panel.
Create a sketch of the future panels on paper in full size. This can be a plot picture on any subject (children’s, kitchen, etc.) or an abstract collage of materials harmoniously selected in color and texture. Also, the panel may have an unusual shape (engine, tree, circle, etc.) or consist of several parts (diptych, triptych), the same or different in size, but constituting a single whole.
Choose a fabric for the base of the panel - monophonic or with a small pattern suitable for the background, rather dense. A good base option may be unbleached fabric, canvas, or burlap. Such a fabric will need a quantity sufficient to carve out two identical parts - the base and the inside of the panel (their dimensions depend on your sketch).
Peresnite from the sketch drawn on the tracing paper all the details of the composition and cut them out. Select for each element a fabric of the appropriate color. For thin parts you can use a cord, tape, tape. Small elements make of beads, buttons and other unnecessary fittings.
Cut out of the glue spider web the same set of parts as from the fabric.The details of the fabric fold with the glue web and apply to the base according to your sketch. Iron each piece with a hot iron so that it sticks to the base fabric.
The edges of the details of the pattern are hand-carved with a decorative stitch or a zigzag stitch on the sewing machine. You can also create contours of parts, stitching a thin braid along them, a cord (textile, leather or suede), a thick thread.
Some elements of the panel may not be completely sewn to the base or bulk. Such details are cut out in double numbers and stitched, folding them together with faces. At the same time, it is necessary to leave a non-sewn hole through which the part is turned out. Then tamp the part with padding polyester, or when grinding, add another layer of gasket material that can give the desired volume. The resulting piece manually sew to the base of the panel in its place.
Also, sew all the other details of the picture from fittings, fur and other materials. Perform embroidered items. Give the composition a finished look. Where possible, press the sewn parts through a wet press or using steam.
Fold the base of the panel with its purl face down. Stitch around the perimeter, leaving a small section unstitched. Turn out the panel, flatten the edges and straighten the corners. Iron off the edges of the product.
To handle the edges of the panel and can be different. Fold the base and the back part with the wrong sides. Edge the edges with a tape of a suitable fabric (which would visually assemble the composition) either manually or manually.
Between the details of the base, you can lay a bulk cushioning material and process the edges with one of the methods suggested above. Quilt the base with small hand stitches or patterned machine stitches, and you will have a very impressive panel.
